A modular, fiber-optic sensor has been constructed in which the diaphragm can be replaced with different sensing mechanisms to detect numerous physical phenomena. Additionally, different fiber-optic detection systems can be attached to the sensor. Students employing this modular sensor can investigate optical sensors and detection systems that prepare them for advanced studies of micro-optical mechanical systems (MOMS).
