We describe the construction and operation of a compact diode laser pumped Nd:YVO4 microchip laser with intracavity frequency doubling. An output power of about 100 mW at 0.53 μm has been achieved. This device can be used in undergraduate teaching labs and for research applications as well. An experiment using this laser for holography is described.
