The Q function or the quotient function is frequently encountered in electromagnetics research without knowledge of its basic properties. However, the simple rules given in the present paper can speed up the algebraic work and reduce possible errors. Scalar, vector, and dyadic-valued Q functions are discussed together with some applications in physics.
