We describe a concise introduction to the correlation of continuous signals based on a series of demonstrations performed with the aid of a new low‐cost correlator. The significant novelty of this instrument is that, unlike previous versions, it is able to correlate both continuous and pulsed signals. It may therefore be employed as a teaching aid in the student laboratory for introductory demonstration experiments in random noise theory and in photoelectron statistics.
