A 12‐carrel audio‐tutorial laboratory which accompanies the first term of introductory physics for engineers (mechanics) at Michigan Technological University has been in operation for three years. It is suitable for very large numbers of students and is supervised by a single clerk. A set of nine experiments (six employing stroboscopic photography) was designed for use in the laboratory. They are carefully synchronized with course lectures and are intended mainly as a means of demonstrating theory. A set of 35‐mm slides and a cassette tape recording guide students through theory, procedure, and analysis. A microcomputer is used to check results.
