Redundancy (the correspondence of different specifications to the same physical situation) and superfluity (the existence of specifications corresponding to no physical situation) in the description of classical electromagnetism by fields and by potentials are discussed for the vacuum case. The amount of information specifying a physical situation is found for each description and is shown to be the same for both.
