During the year 1970 there are major anniversaries of the birth or death of seven men whose accomplishments and influence have been of importance to the development of physics. They are: Alexandre Edmond Becquerel, Henry Andrews Bumstead, Heinrich Gustav Magnus, Jean Baptiste Perrin, William John Macquorn Rankine, Simon Stevin, and John Tyndall.
