A working model of a Foucault pendulum at intermediate latitudes is constructed of a steel drill rod with a steel ball attached at one end. The rod makes an angle of 45° with the rotation axis of a horizontal turntable. The vibrating system is the same as that whose behavior led Foucault to construct his first gravity pendulum.
