A graphical analog, which obeys the same equations as an electron beam during deflection, is described. The transverse displacement and velocity of the beam can be calculated from this analog, and certain details which are not obvious in the straightforward solution are apparent in the graphical-analog solution. A proposal for a charged-particle beam-velocity measuring device is made. This proposal is based on behavior revealed by the graphical-analog solution.
